A 13-YEAR-OLD Tandragee schoolboy is celebrating after becoming the second young golfer to score a hole-in-one at the town golf club inside a week!
This time the tee shot was holed by David Cunningham at the 14th, when his perfectly-struck five-iron found the cup.
It emulates the hole-in-one achieved the previous weekend by nine-year-old Edward Rowe, who did the needful at the difficult 16th in a club competition.
David’s magical shot was during a Ronan Rafferty matchplay tie against Lisburn, and it abruptly ended his own particular match, giving him a 5 and 4 victory.
Indeed, the boys of Tandragee won 18 out of a possible 20 points, the other four in the team being William Small, Jake Rowe, Josh McIlwrath and Luke Mehaffey.
Said David – who plays off a handicap of 10 – “The man thing is that we go into the return match with an almost unassailable lead, needing only two points at Lisburn on Sunday week to make the next round.”
David, who lives at The Mount in Tandragee, is a pupil of Tandragee Junior High School and admits he spends more time studying and practising golf than at his school work!
For the record, four of the Ronan Rafferty side bagged a maximum four points each – David, William, Jake and Josh, with Luke squaring his match with two points.
