£200,000 road improvements in Crossmaglen started

Work on a £200,000 road improvements project in Crossmaglen began this week.

The work on a resurfacing scheme on the C227 Dundalk Road, Crossmaglen started on Monday 25 May 2015.

The scheme involves the resurfacing and associated works of a 0.9 km stretch of the C227 Dundalk Road between the U5470 Lissaraw road junction and the U5602 Lismore road junction. Where necessary the drainage and associated footways will also be improved.

Roads Minister Danny Kennedy, said: “This £200,000 scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure in the Crossmaglen area.

“On completion of the works, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new surface along this stretch of the road.”

The duration of the works is ten weeks and a road closure for the surfacing works will be required and will be implemented during July 2015.

During the works local traffic diversions will be in place, with access only available to local residents and businesses within the length of the scheme.

TransportNI aims to keep disruptions to a minimum, however, delays should be expected and drivers are asked to be patient and allow additional time when planning journeys in the area whilst the road improvements are being carried out.

With all work of this nature adverse weather can impact on the planned duration, however, TransportNI will advise the public of any unexpected change to the scheduled completion date.
