A body has been discovered during searches for a missing Co Tyrone man, police have confirmed.
The body was found on Wednesday afternoon, January 7, in an entry beside a block of houses on Church Street in Cookstown, close to where 21-year-old Taylor Stewart was last seen.
Police said that whilst formal identification has not taken place, the family of Taylor Stewart, who has been missing since the early hours of New Year’s Day, has been informed.
Mr Stewart had been reported missing after he was last spotted in the Church Heights area of the town at around 5.30am on New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1.
Police have sealed off the area where the body was located, with a cordon currently in place.
The discovery follows a week-long search operation involving the PSNI and volunteers from Community Rescue Service, who worked day and night to search the surrounding area amid growing concern for the young man’s welfare.
In the days following his disappearance, police issued a public appeal for information and released an image of Taylor from the night he went missing.
At this stage a full investigation is ongoing.
