Runners and walkers are invited to come out once again and take part in the ninth annual Run for Autism – from Newtownhamilton to Lissummon – next month.
The event is organised by Run for Autism HAND (Helping Autism in Newry and District), and is always well received.
This year it takes place on Saturday, October 1, and there will be three options available – a 10k walk, 10k run and a half marathon.
So whatever your fitness levels, choose which you think you are up for and help raise money for the work supported by this fantastic local charity.
Run for Autism HAND was established by a group of parents whose aim it is to raise money to help those living with autism and their families in the local community.
Over recent years – since formed in 2008 – they have helped many different groups and organisations, including the Newry and Mourne Autism NI group and Rathore Special Needs School in Newry.
They are currently working with the Print It Shop – part of the Appleby programme based in the Eurospar Shopping Centre in Armagh – helping young people with autism.
It is through such successful fundraisers as the Run for Autism that they are able to support these endeavours.
And that is where you come in – so time to get the running shoes out!
A great day’s craic is in store, with some fantastic scenery along the way and hospitality and refreshments at the end.
Participants can register online – www.runforautismhand.com – or on the day from 11am.
All three will leave from Newtownhamilton playing fields and make their way to the playing fields in Lissummon, where there will be refreshments and showering and changing facilities, as well as transport back to Newtown.
Signing up for the 10k walk – which gets underway at 12 noon – is just £10. The half marathon and 10k run – which begin at 1pm and 1.15pm respectively – will each cost £15.
Runners and walkers can also avail of sponsorship cards – telephone Deirdre on 078 0796 0152, Peter on (028) 3087 8549 or Elaine (028) 3087 8846 to get your card, or speak to any committee member or PM the Facebook page, Run for autism H.A.N.D.
The Run for Autism is now a firm date in the local calendar and its success is down to the dedication and commitment of committee members and the hard-working team.
It is also down to the support of the public, so please come along and join in – you really will be helping to make a difference to those living with autism.
