First picture: Armagh’s Colin Morgan in futuristic Channel 4 drama

Recognise anyone?

Here’s Armagh actor Colin Morgan in the first image released for the forthcoming drama ‘Humans’.

The picture, released today by Channel 4, which will broadcast the exciting futuristic eight-part series later in the year, shows Colin as Leo, alongside ‘Synth’ Max, played by Ivanno Jeremiah.

Armagh I reported in October that Colin Morgan had signed up to star in the TV show, which is being co-produced by Channel 4 and the US cable network AMC.

The 28-year-old, who attended the Integrated College in Dungannon, is a young man on the run in the show, which revolves around ‘Synths’.

According to Channel 4, a ‘Synth’ is a “highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. In the hope of transforming the way they live, one strained suburban family purchases a refurbished Synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences”.

He is joined in the production, which has been filming on location in London, by Katherine Parkinson, who played Jen in Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd, and Mr Selfridge’s Tom Goodman-Hill.

Colin and Katherine play the couple who decide to employ a Synth to handle their household chores.

The TV series has been written by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, the pairing behind the hit Spooks.

This is the latest outing for Colin Morgan, with no let-up to his hectic schedule since the BBC flagship show Merlin, in which he played the eponymous hero, came to an end.

Just last month his big screen movie ‘Testament of Youth’ was released to critical acclaim – and finally got a showing in the Armagh Omniplex after Armagh I intervened!

The promise of great things came when he wowed critics during his West End acting debut in 2007 in DBC Pierre’s Vernon God Little.

Television beckoned for Colin, among his roles being stints in The Catherine Tate Show and Doctor Who.

He also joined the cast in a leading role in Northern Ireland’s own hit The Fall, alongside Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan.

Latest TV outing Humans is an adaptation of the Swedish outing Real Humans.

It also features, among the cast, William Hurt, star of A History of Violence and Damages, Tom Goodman-Hill, whose screen credits include The Devil’s Whore and Mr Selfridge), Rebecca Front, from The Thick Of It and Just William), Neil Maskell, star of Utopia and The Mimic, and Dates and Fresh Meat’s Gemma Chan.

Humans is made by Kudos – the company behind Utopia and Broadchurch – in association with Matador Films.

It will screen on Channel 4 and AMC later this year.
