Stage and screen drama at Armagh’s Market Place Theatre

Killymuck at the Market Place Theatre in Armagh

Armagh’s Market Place Theatre is set to host drama on both stage and on screen.

Sit back, relax and immerse yourself in the next Big Screen classic on Friday, June 14.

‘Carol’ tells the story of an elegant socialite, and her unlikely friendship with Therese, who is just starting out in life.

Mesmerised by each other, they face a choice: deny their hearts desires or defy society’s conventions, but in doing so, risk life as they know it.

From director Todd Haynes [I’m Not There, Far From Heaven] and based on the best-selling novel, ‘Carol’ is a powerful romance fuelled by the danger and exhilaration of forbidden love.

On Saturday, June 15, the drama switches to the stage with ‘Killymuck’, a darkly comic play about class, poverty and the struggle to escape, by award-winning playwright Kat Woods.

Killymuck is a fictitious housing estate built on a paupers’ graveyard in 1970s Ireland.

Inspired by real events, Kat Woods’ play sees Niamh navigate the trials and tribulations of being a kid from the benefit class system. Educational barriers, impoverishment, depression and lack of opportunities conspire against the struggle to escape the underclass stereotype.

‘Killymuck’ explores the political cause and effect of what being born with less means.
