The Armagh Gaol will be lit up in gold this Monday, September 15, to show support for CLIC Sargent, Northern Ireland’s leading cancer charity for children and young people.
It will be one of scores of key buildings and landmarks to make the gesture, alongside the likes of Brighton Wheel, Belfast City Hall and Blackpool Tower.
Every month, thousands of families deal with the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis and its treatment. Cancer treatment for children is often gruelling and can start immediately, last as long as three years and take place many miles from home.
With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, this will be a chance to raise awareness of the impact of childhood cancer, and of CLIC Sargent’s work supporting young cancer patients and their families.
Throughout September, people across Northern Ireland are going gold – wearing gold ribbons or holding their own gold event – to show that they are standing by those families.
Lord Mayor of Armagh City and District Cathy Rafferty, said: “We are really excited to go gold for CLIC Sargent.
“Childhood Cancer Awareness Month was a fantastic opportunity to show we stand by children with cancer, and their families.”
Fiona McCann, CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for County Armagh, said: “We’re so pleased that Armagh Council is going gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
“Every month thousands of families hear the devastating news their child has cancer and CLIC Sargent is here to provide vital practical, emotional and financial support from diagnosis onwards.
“Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a great opportunity for schools, businesses, universities and communities to stand by children and young people with cancer.”
