Armagh man pulled down trousers before slapping buttocks in direction of police

An Armagh man who pulled down his trousers before slapping his buttocks in the direction of police officers has been handed a £400 fine.

The 28-year-old’s barrister told court: “He doesn’t know anything about this but accepts his guilt.”

Shane Turley, of Nialls Crescent, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour at the city’s Magistrates’ last Tuesday.

It was heard that on May 6, at around 3am, police spotted the defendant intoxicated in the middle of the road on Upper English Street in Armagh.

As officer approached, Turley was shouting that he wanted a taxi before he turned to police and said: “I wouldn’t take a lift of you”.

The defendant then stuck his fingers up at officers before pulling down his trousers and slapping his buttocks in their direction.

Turley was cautioned for this but continued to follow officers shouting “f*** the police” repeatedly.

He continued to use offensive language towards the officers and stick up his fingers.

Defence barrister Michael Tierney stated: “He doesn’t know anything about this but accepts his guilt”.

Turley was ordered to pay a fine of £400, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 18 weeks.
