An Armagh man who raised over £3,000 for charity last year is organising a table quiz in aid of two more worthwhile causes.
Brendan Toner (81), who took to charity fundraising to keep himself busy in retirement, raised £3,363 for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, gathered from quiz he organised and from his surprise 80th birthday party.
An Armagh man born and bred, he has a keen interest in all things charity, and is always looking for new ways to raise money.
This year, Brendan has decided to organise another table quiz, with funds to be split between the Lisanally Special School and the Haematology Ward at Craigavon Area Hospital.
Brendan’s table quiz will be held in the County Armagh Golf Club on Friday, March 1 at 8:30pm, with Seamus Knipe once again acting as quiz master.
Each team can be four or six people, with entry being £5 a head.
Finger food will be included and there will be a raffle with six strips costing £5.
Anyone is welcome to turn up and enter a team, though the event is limited to ages sixteen and up as it is in a licenced premises.
“2024 brings another year of fundraising for dad, mum, our family and the Armagh Golf Club family,” said Paula Stride, Brendan’s daughter.
“Dad receives brilliant support from the Golf Club, has been fundraising now for over 20 years, and never seems to tire of giving back to the community, even though mum and dad are now into their 80s.”
She added: “We continue to be a proud family, as many of us will be there this year again to support the Haematology Ward in Craigavon, who looked after a much-loved and much-missed club member, and Lisanally Special School that some family members are involved with.
“We raised over £3,000 last year, let’s do it again this year for these wonderful recipients!”
Brendan has been collecting money for charity for over ten years, starting off with fundraisers for Armagh Men’s Shed.
Since then, he has fundraised for the Air Ambulance, Chest Heart and Stroke, PIPS and most recently the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
