An Armagh man was fined after police turned up to discover his partner’s door hanging off its hinges on New Year’s Day.
The 36-year-old was fined £300 for disorderly behaviour at Armagh Magistrates’ Court this week following the incident last month.
The court heard how police were called to an verbal altercation between the pair in the Callan Bridge area of the city.
Police observed the defendant call his partner “a tramp” and noticed footprints on the door, which was hanging off its hinges.
However, a charge of criminal damage was withdrawn by the prosecution.
Despite repeated warnings from police, the defendant was taken to Lurgan custody suite, as a result of his behaviour.
It is here the defence said “he made a full admission of guilt at the first opportunity”.
The court also heard how the couple are still together and enjoy a “generally stable” relationship.
Passing sentence, District Judge Nigel Broderick pointed out that alcohol was “clearly a feature in this case”.
The defendant was given 12 weeks to pay the fine, as well as the additional £15 offenders’ levy.
