A bridge notorious for single vehicle collisions between Armagh and Keady was struck again on Monday evening.
Girvan’s Bridge, on the A29 Keady Road, was hit by a car at around 8.45pm.
Police were called to the scene and have today (Tuesday) confirmed that no injuries were reported.
The wall had just recently been rebuilt on the opposite side after being destroyed by two cars in separate incidents just days apart in November.
One of the cars entered the water 40-ft below. Passers-by helped rescue the two men and one woman from the vehicle on that occasion.
However, last night, it was the opposite side of the bridge wall that suffered the damage – just several metres from where the wall was rebuilt last year, when a lorry crashed through it.
The latest incident will only amplify recent calls for the installation of a crash barrier and some improved safety measures at the bend.
Speaking back in November, Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon said: “In my view, a crash barrier is an absolute necessity. This latest incident only reinforces the need for urgent action.
“In the interim temporary safety measures are being put in place and the road layout and warning signage is being reviewed.”
