Two residential properties that were subjected to arson attacks within three days of each other are not being treated as connected, police have confirmed.
Substantial damage was caused to a house in the Greenfield Park area on Sunday evening (July 5).
Emergency services were tasked to the scene following reports shortly before 11.45pm.
Thankfully, no one was inside the property at the time of the incident but emergency services determined the cause of the blaze to be deliberate ignition and an investigation was launched.
Then on Wednesday (July 8) emergency services were despatched to the property in the Killuney Drive area shortly before 4am.
The fire was also deemed deliberate. However, a prompt arrest was made.
A police spokesperson said: “A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. She remains in police custody at this time.”
Following concerns raised by a local resident about whether the two attacks were connected Armagh I contacted PSNI for clarity.
A police spokesperson confirmed that they are not currently treating the separate incidents as being connected.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, firefighters were called to an arson attack in the Monaghan Street area of Milford in the early hours of Friday morning.
A call was placed to 999 at 2.45am and one appliance from Armagh Fire Station attended the incident.
A NIFRS spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a car on fire on Monaghan Street, Milford, Armagh. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 3.21am.”
It remains unclear if this incident is connected to either of the other two incidents.
