An Armagh couple who caught on to telephone scammer and called him out of his rouse were on the end of some abhorrent calls from several numbers afterwards.
Jackie McKeown and her husband, Joe, had been having troubles with their internet connection but had the problem fixed by BT.
The couple then received a call from a male earlier this week claiming to be from BT technical support and he asked Joe to start up his computer and check his internet speed.
But Joe was wary of the call, with wife Jackie telling Armagh I: “We knew this was a scam the minute he opened his mouth, but it is scary he knew we had problems with our internet connection.”
Joe pretended to follow the callers instructions; when asked what he saw on the screen Joe lied and said it was black.
The scammer then became angry, Jackie commented: “I think it was because he was not getting the answers he wanted.”
Joe then called out the caller as being “nothing more than a conman”, before hanging up.
The couple then received phone calls from three numbers along with a withheld number.
When answered, the caller was the same male, who referred to Joe as a “mother f***er”.
Later, Jackie answered a call from an unknown number, she explained: “I only answered because we have a son who lives in Australia and when he calls it comes up as an unknown number.”
Once more it was the scammer who called her “mother f***er’s wife”.
Jackie said: “We knew this was a scam the minute he opened his mouth, but some poor innocent and vulnerable persons may get scammed.”
