An Armagh man is to face trial on a number of serious assault charges later this year.
Leroy Brady appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court – sitting in Newry – on Tuesday for the purpose of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which it is determined if there is sufficient evidence to advance the case to the Crown Court.
The accused, whose address was given as Drumbreda Avenue, is charged with non-fatal strangulation or asphyxiation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and resisting police.
While none of the facts were read out in court the alleged offences were carried out on January 30 this year.
During the brief hearing, a Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative submitted that, based on the evidence, there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence counsel Kevin O’Hare made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Anne Marshall, satisfied that the threshold for committal had been met, remanded the defendant back into custody to appear at Newry Crown Court for arraignment on October 21.
