Armagh man fined £250 for urinating in public in city centre twice in as many months

An elderly resident on Ogle Street reported defendant urinated on her front door and on another occasion he urinated on a green electric box

An Armagh man who urinated in public twice in as many months in the city centre has been fined £250.

Court heard that on one occasion the 36-year-old did so on an electric box, prompting the district judge to comment that the defendant was “lucky” it was not “live”.

Padraig O’Hare, of Newtownhamilton Road, had pleas of guilty entered to two counts of indecent behaviour and one count of disorderly behaviour at the city’s Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.

These charges were accrued by the defendant over two separate incidents earlier this year.

Prosecution outlined that on May 29, at 7.30pm, police received a report of a male being disorderly on Ogle Street in Armagh.

Officers arrived to find O’Hare in an intoxicated state, shouting and swearing in the street. They were informed by one elderly resident that the defendant had urinated on her front door.

O’Hare was subsequently arrested and charged with indecent behaviour and disorderly behaviour, when he sobered up.

Then, on July 25 at 10.50pm, police observed the defendant urinating on a green electric box on Lower English Street in the city.

Officers watched as a steady stream on urine flowed into the path of pedestrians and passing traffic. On this occasion O’Hare once more appeared under the influence.

District Judge Eamon King commented: “He is lucky that the electric box was not live.”

Defence solicitor Oisin Toner stated: “He is now living with his mother. She comes from a very good background and has had trouble dealing with him.

“However, I have spoken to her and she instructs that he is now dealing with his issues.”

He added: “He had been living with his mother and it appears that this early release from lockdown wasn’t the best for him.”

O’Hare was ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
