An Armagh man who has admitted Class A and B drug charges must wait until next year to learn his fate after sentencing was deferred at the request of probation.
The district judge told the 47-year-old: “You have a problem with drugs offences, but the probation service have once again stepped in to try and help you.”
Peter McGough, of Abbey Park, appeared for sentencing on possession of Class A and two counts of possession of Class B at the city’s Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday via videolink from his solicitor’s office.
Prosecution began to open the facts of the case, stating that on April 11 police were tasked to a disturbance at an address at Abbey Park in Armagh.
However, the outline was cut short by District Judge Paul Copeland upon his consultation of the presentence report.
The particulars of the offences name the illicit substances as cocaine, methylmethcathinone and cannabis.
Defence barrister Scott McWhinney informed the court that McGough is subject to an enhanced combination order.
District Judge Copeland stated: “Given the history and the background, I am going to exceed to the probation’s application for a deferment in the case.”
Addressing the defendant, he said: “You have a problem with drugs offences, but the probation service have once again stepped into try and help you.”
The case was deferred until June 15 for sentencing.
