An Armagh man who caused over £2,000 worth of damage to a car whilst intoxicated has been given time to make a “stab” at repaying this.
Adjourning the 21-year-old’s case until September, the deputy district judge instructed: “Come with £1,000 or don’t turn up, I will order an arrest warrant and you will go to prison.”
Ryan Gray, of Drumhirk Road, appeared for sentencing on one count of criminal damage at the city’s Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
Prosecution outlined that on June 23, of 2019, the injured party reported that his BMW, which had been parked on Brookhill Crescent overnight, had been damaged.
He was subsequently sent a picture of this defendant lying on the bonnet of the car holding a bottle of Buckfast, which was consistent with the damage.
Court was informed by the prosecution that the damage caused was estimated at around £2,400.
Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes stated that he wished to defer sentencing in the matter for Gray to make a “reasonable stab” at gathering money together.
He warned the defendant: “This was a nasty stupid decision, to get drunk then jump all over someone’s car…..you come with £1,000 or don’t turn up, I will order an arrest warrant and you will go to prison.”
The case was adjourned until September 6 for sentencing.
