An Armagh man who threatened members of his family with a knife following an argument has been sentenced to six months in custody.
The 24-year-old’s barrister said that his client knew the “dim view” the court would take of his actions and that there was an “inevitability” regarding his sentence.
Ryan Cassidy, of Culdee Drive, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and common assault at the city’s Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday, via videolink from Maghaberry.
Prosecution outlined that on May 4, police received a call of an alleged verbal argument outside the defendant’s grandparents home at Culdee Drive, Armagh.
During this, Cassidy threatened a number of family members with a knife and then threatened to stab all the family members present before making off with an assailant.
Defence barrister Seamus Lannon stated that his client had spent a “significant” period in prison since May and asked that he was given credit for his plea.
He added that Cassidy knew the “dim view” the court would take of his actions and that there was an “inevitability” regarding the sentence.
District Judge Bernie Kelly sentenced the defendant to six months in prison for the offences before the court.
