An Armagh man who acted aggressively after receiving a head injury has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
The 26-year-old, of Old Grange, appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday charged with disorderly behaviour.
Court heard that on August 20, last year, police were called to a domestic incident involving the defendant and his mother and father.
After speaking to the injured parties – the defendant’s mother and father – he was arrested.
He was then taken into custody where it was noted that the he had suffered a head injury, which required medical attention. He was subsequently taken to Craigavon Area Hospital for treatment.
Whilst in hospital the 26-year-old became agitated and attempted to leave.
Court heard that on the day in question the defendant had been attending a christening party at his parent’s home, after this he had gone into town.
Defence counsel went on to explain that he had returned with a serious head injury later that evening which caused his behaviour.
They added that he had been coming in and out of consciousness and had little recollection of what had happened.
The defence told the court that his client sends his apologies to police and was “ashamed by his treatment of NHS staff”.
Deputy District Judge Peter King took into account the defendant’s early plea, his limited record and the fact none of the members of NHS staff were hurt or offended.
He was sentenced to one-month imprisonment suspended for one year.
