It’s been over two decades since Jane Gormley first set up her specialist Orthodontic clinic in Armagh and, in that time, there’s been no shortage of clients seeking to enhance their smile.
Armed with an array of qualifications and experience following a two-year appointment as a Senior Dental Officer at the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen, she set up Armagh Orthodontic Clinic in 2001 with the aim of bringing local, professional care to the Armagh area.
Whilst initially based on Victoria Street, practice has grown since then, eventually moving into its new state-of-the-art premises on the Loughgall Road in 2013.
A true expert in her field, Jane is also a member of the Northern Ireland Specialist Orthodontic Group, the British Orthodontic Society, the Orthodontic Society of Ireland and the European Orthodontic Society.
Jane says that she felt a high-street practice was a better fit for her, in contrast to the hospital lifestyle.
“We treat children and adults, really anybody who is looking an improvement in their smile!”
She added: “We can offer treatment for very mild problems up to very severe, and we have a range of appliances to do that with.”
Jane is keen to emphasise the professionalism and modernity of the practice, owing to the professionally qualified staff and the current premises, which is a stone’s throw from the city centre.
She said: “To be an orthodontist, we do go through a lot of intense training and are registered with the General Dental Council as an orthodontist. We have our full-time orthodontic therapist as well, who’s also registered.
“Our clinic is bigger, brighter and modern. Everything is digital here, so it’s a much nicer experience for patients.”
Alongside Jane, the clinic also boasts a full-time orthodontic therapist, a dental hygienist and a range of top-tier dental nurses to ensure clients get the best possible treatment.
Jane says she has noticed, especially in the last five years, the increasing prevalence of clients seeking orthodontic treatment.
“It’s becoming more common,” she said. “It’s certainly becoming very popular, with people more conscious of how they look. There has been a big growth, and social media probably has a part to play.”
While some may be unaware of what the treatment entails or what it could do for them, Jane says it’s as easy as picking up the phone.
“We’re always open to enquiries. We can offer a free information session for anybody who wants to find out a bit more. We can run a scan on their teeth and do a simulation of what the teeth will look like when they’re straightened, just to give them a feel for the end result.”
Armagh Orthodontic Clinic are versatile with their appointments too, meaning your enquiry can work around your busy schedule.
Jane added: “Sometimes people think a very mild problem is not worth getting looked at, but it can still niggle people. It’s worth asking the question because sometimes a small problem can be treated with a very simple appliance.
“We don’t have a one-size-fits-all attitude to treatment plans. We look at each person as an individual.
“From the feedback we get after treatment, we’ve found that it has a very big impact on people’s confidence and how they feel about themselves. It really makes a big difference to their lives.”
The clinic are currently running a limited time promotional offer, with all consultations booked in January offered at half-price.
