The Armagh owner of a treasured 32-year-old Chestnut horse has issued a tearful plea for his return or any information relating to his whereabouts believing him to have been stolen overnight from a private yard.
Owner Alannah Dougan contacted Armagh I today (Wednesday) urgently seeking the return of her beloved gelding that she received for Christmas aged just 11.
Alannah believes her pony was taken from a private and enclosed field on the Redrock Road late yesterday evening (June 23).
Devastated, she said: “We have checked the whole farm, the roads, everywhere. He hasn’t escaped, he’s been taken.”
She describes her horse as 32-years-old in non-rideable condition with a heart murmur and bad back.
He had been retired from show-jumping and was being lovingly cared for by her family as a pet.
Seeking his return through tears, Alannah said: “It would mean everything to get him back. My mum is out searching the roads everywhere, she is absolutely heartbroken.”
The incident has been reported to police and they too are appealing for information following the report of a missing horse.
Sergeant Glover said: “We received a report at around 11.40am this morning, Wednesday, 24th June that a horse – described as a chestnut gelding – was missing from a field in the Redrock Road area.
“When the owner went to check on the horse at around 9.15am, they found the gate, which had been closed tight the previous day, now lying open.
“We believe the horse went missing sometime between 9pm on Tuesday night, 23rd June and this morning, Wednesday, 24th June.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would ask that anyone who saw anything suspicious, or who has any information, including CCTV, dash-cam or other footage, to contact police on the 101 number, quoting reference 599 of 24/06/26.”
