Armagh woman accused of taking over £62,000 from waste firm to face Crown Court

She was released on her own bail to appear in Newry next month

Armagh Magistrates Court

An Armagh woman accused of taking over £62,000 from a local waste company is to face the Crown Court later this year.

Tracy Carr appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse on Tuesday, for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE) – the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

The 45-year-0ld is charged with fraud by abuse of position.

Between May 5, 2021 and September 22, 2022, the defendant is alleged, whilst occupying a position within Glenvale Waste Ltd,  to have “dishonestly abused that position” by accessing company accounts and caused funds in the sum of £62,678.61 to be transferred to her personal bank account.

The defendant, who appeared in the court, made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

The prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

The defence made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Anne Marshall, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, released the defendant on her own bail of £500, to appear at Newry Crown Court for arraignment on April 11.
