Charities’ delight as Willie hands over £3,300 from sale of latest Christmas book

"Hopefully we’ll all get together and do it again next Christmas."

Three worthwhile charities have received a welcome New Year boost thanks to the generosity and creativity of Armagh champion fundraiser Willie Nugent.

For the Armagh man has now handed over the proceeds of his latest Christmas book.

Maisie Comes to the Rescue – featuring his own canine companion as the eponymous hero – was the sixth festive publication by the Armagh man and it was once again a sell-out.

Priced at a fiver a pop, the success of the book has allowed Willie to hand over £1,100 to each of the three charities.

Gratefully accepting cheques were Holly Wilson, operations and marketing officer of Little Heroes (Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children), Lauren McRoberts, project and engagement officer at the Friends of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, and Gary Wilson, fundraising officer with Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Willie would like to thank everyone who supported his annual efforts in any way.

He said: “A special word of thanks to Armagh I, my illustrator Simon Goodway, my sponsor Nugent and Gibney, the Ulster Gazette, Trimprint for a first class job and all the shops who helped sell my book.

“l couldn’t have done it without them.

“Hopefully we’ll all get together and do it again next Christmas. Until then best wishes and a Happy New Year to everyone from myself and Maisie!”
