Co Armagh pair to face Crown Court accused of assault and making threats to kill

A Co. Armagh pair are to face Crown Court for an alleged assault over three years ago.

James Hassett, 41, of Rosmoyle, Craigavon, and James O’Reilly, 45, of Thomas Street, Armagh, appeared charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and threats to kill at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

As the charges were read, it was heard that all alleged offences occurred between June 23 and June 16, 2016, with reference being made to one alleged injured party.

Standing in the dock, the accused made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence counsel  for both defendants made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Paul Copeland stated: “I am satisfied that there is a prima facie case to answer.”

O’Reilly and Hasset were released on their own bails of £500 to appear at Newry Crown Court on December 19 for sentencing.
