A County Armagh police officer with almost three decades of services has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.
Inspector Phil Shepherd has served for 29 years and has been awarded the Queen’s Police Medal.
From 2006 until 2013 he had been based within the Portadown area.
During that time, Inspector Shepherd was pivotal in assisting in the development of community engagement and his style of neighbourhood policing has been instrumental in achieving continued progress in delivering a safer community for both officers and the public.
Inspector Shepherd was one of the authors of the PSNI Code of Ethics and also helped produce the Human Rights Programme of Action.
Also recognised in the New Year’s Honours List is a local veteran Ulster Unionist councillor.
Alderman Elizabeth Ingram, (pictured), from Rathfriland, is a former Banbridge District Councillor and continues to represent the interests of local people on the new Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
