One Co Armagh road is in such a bad state each pothole is being given its own address.
In a single mile stretch along the Lislasly Road in Collegeland, 60 separate defects have been marked out and labelled.
SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon branded the condition of the road as “an absolute joke” and has called for urgent action to address the issue.
“In a stretch of exactly one mile, from the Moy Road to Collegeland Road, there are sixty individual potholes/defects marked for repair,” Councillor O’Hanlon explained.
“Things are so bad that Roads Service have actually numbered them. The road has been marked several times without repair but now they have gone to the extent of giving each pothole a number.
“We have seen some works on other roads in the area in recent months and this is very much welcome, but it also highlights the poor condition roads like Lislasly and the need for significant road works.
“I am continuously reporting local roads for repair but I have never seen the like of this, nor have I ever seen potholes given a number. The potholes are so long there they have been given their own address.”
He added: “Local motorists are reporting constant damage to their cars and vans, and if it wasn’t so serious it would be laughable. We need to see real action and we need it urgently. Enough with the yellow paint, we want tar!”
