A couple accused of cruelty against a two-year-old boy – who was allegedly scalded – have been released on bail to an address in Co Armagh.
The High Court imposed strict bail conditions on the Portuguese nationals during a hearing today (Thursday).
It is alleged that the pair, 26-year-old Reuben Santos and Rita Beltrao, aged 19, inflicted grievous bodily injury on the boy.
The couple – who are denying the charges – had been living at an address in Randalstown in Co Antrim.
During the course of an earlier court appearance, it was stated that the child had been taken to Antrim Area Hospital where, according to the prosecution, medical staff were informed he had a groin infection.
Subsequent examination by a doctor had shown multiple injuries which included bruising to his body and blistering.
The court had heard that the couple had been living with their young daughter at the same address of the alleged victim and the alleged victim’s father.
All three of the adults are charged with GBH with intent and cruelty to a child.
At the High Court, Mrs Justice Keegan granted bail to the couple after a new address became available in Co Armagh.
Both are banned from having contact with anyone under the age of 16. They were ordered to pay cash sureties and had to surrendered their passports as part of the conditions laid down.
