Families across the district are being invited to lace up their walking shoes and head to Gosford Forest Park later this month for the return of the Daisy Dander, raising funds for children and young people living with cancer.
The sponsored walk will take place on Saturday, September 27 at 2pm, with the route designed especially with younger walkers in mind.
Children can take part free of charge, while adults are asked to pay a £5 registration fee, with every penny going to Cancer Fund for Children.
The charity provides vital services for children, young people and their families navigating the impact of cancer – offering emotional support, therapeutic breaks and practical help when it’s needed most.
Karen Brown from the Armagh Support Group, who are behind the event, explained why the cause is so close to her heart.
“My family has experience of childhood cancer, first with my brother Graeme who passed away when he was just 15-years-old, and then with my son Tom who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in 2015 at just four weeks old.
“Services like those provided by Cancer Fund for Children are so vital in supporting families as they navigate this often life-changing experience and we at the Armagh Support Group are proud to do our part in helping to fund these services.”
The Armagh Support Group has been fundraising tirelessly since it was founded in 1994 by Karen’s mother, Celia Bodel, after the loss of her son. Over the last 25-plus years, the group has raised more than £300,000 to ensure no child has to face cancer alone.
Karen added: “We want everyone to join us at Gosford Park on Saturday, September 27 and help us support children and young people, while having a great day of family fun!”
Anyone wishing to take part can register in advance or simply sign up on the day.
