A man who told police he had “made a mistake” after being detected driving whilst over the limit has been handed a 12 month disqualification.

Court heard that the 30-year-old made admissions to having consumed a “couple of beers and whiskey” prior to being stopped.

Krasimir Gospodinov Krasimirov, of the Square in Moy, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Armagh Magistrates’, sitting at Newry.

Prosecution outlined that on September 26, at 0.40am, police observed the defendant exit a vehicle on Barrack Hill, Armagh.

Upon speaking to Krasimirov, officers noted a strong smell of intoxicating liquor and a preliminary breath test was conducted resulting in a fail.

The defendant was arrested and taken to Dungannon Custody Suite, where an evidential sample of breath was taken giving a reading of 41mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Court heard, Krasimirov admitted to police that he had consumed a “couple of beers and whiskey”. He stated that he had been giving a lift to some friends and had “made a mistake”.

District Judge Eamonn King disqualified the defendant from driving and ordered that he pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15.

Krasimirov was certified for the drink driving course which would see his ban reduced to one of nine months upon completion.
