Gosford Road closed due to flooding as three more weather warnings issued

It’s a Hallowe’en Horror when it comes to the rain as, just like a zombie apocalypse, it just keeps coming – and coming!

This morning (Monday) police have advised motorists that because of severe flooding the A28 Gosford Road is closed between Mullaghglass roundabout in Newry and Tandragee Road in Markethill. Traffic currently being diverted via Tandragee.

Motorists are to seek an alternative route whilst police assist Roads Service.

The Armagh to Portadown Road is also particularly bad in the usual spots, so best avoided this morning, if possible.

Police have also confirmed the A1 Southbound at Loughbrickland is down to one lane due to flooding this morning.

Roads across the Orchard county will be struggling with the strain of the persistent and heavy downpours over the last couple of days. Unfortunately, it’s not getting any better over the next 48 hours.

A yellow warning was issued from midnight on Sunday until noon today for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down and Tyrone and a second warning will then take effect at 4pm and will remain in place until 3pm on Tuesday (Hallowe’en).

And if that wasn’t enough, there a further alert in place from 6pm on Tuesday until 9am on Wednesday.

Some areas are likely to receive between 25mm and 35mm of rain.
