Home Bargains opening date in Armagh put back again

New city store now due to open in August instead of June

Home Bargains fans will have to wait a big longer to go shopping in Armagh.

The budget retailer has put the opening date of its city superstore back once again!

Just weeks after saying that the store – at Alexander Road – would throw open its doors to the public on June 24, there’s been a change of plans.

It is now expected to be August before the multi-million pound development is open for business.

And Armagh I understands that, at this stage, the most likely date will be Saturday, August 5 – a full six weeks after what had been reported by parent company T J Morris.

The news will come as a further disappointment for shoppers who had been eager to get a glimpse inside the store and enjoy the full Home Bargains’ range in Armagh, without having to travel to neighbouring towns and cities.

The store will be the retailer’s biggest in Northern Ireland when it eventually does open, and it will take in the massive ‘super-store’ site which had previously been earmarked for Tesco.

The latter’s planned move to the Alexander Road in Armagh collapsed in January 2015.

Home Bargains revealed last May that it had acquired the site and was planning to open at the latter part of 2016 or early this year.

Just two weeks ago an opening at the end of this month was given, but a further delay will now mean it will be later in the summer before the Armagh outlet is up and running.
