The girls GAA team from St Malachy’s Primary School have celebrated their win against Cullyhanna in the Cumann na mBunscol All County Malachy McGeeney competition for intermediate schools.
The team, made up of P6 and P7 girls, took the cup home for the medium school section on Wednesday, May 1 after a ‘nail-biting’ final played at The Athletic Grounds, Armagh.
St Malachy’s Primary School commented: “A special word must go to the girls from Cullyhanna, who played with great skill and determination, losing out by the finest of margins.
“But the day belonged to the girls from St Malachy’s who displayed a great willingness to get over the line. All girls played an active role in the game, showing great tenacity and sporting prowess to both their opponents and their teammates.
“The girls were fantastic ambassadors for their school, their families and girls’ football.
“The day will live long in the children’s memories and the whole family of St Malachy’s are immensely proud of the girls’ achievements.
“Finally, a special word of thanks to the referee, the Cumann na mBunscol committee, who facilitated today’s event and provide structures to promote our games, to our coach and mentor Mr McKinney and Shauna McVeigh for her assistance.”
The team, led by Mr McKinney, enjoyed a treat at Mackles after the match.
