An Armagh man who is accused of burgling business premises on the city’s Cathedral Road will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.

The 28-year-old appeared at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

Luke James Wall, of no fixed abode, is charged with burglary with intent to steal, two counts of assault on police, two counts of resisting police and possession of a Class B drug.

As the charges were read, it was heard that all of the offences were alleged to have been committed on March 20, of this year.

The defendant is accused of entering the back office of premises on Cathedral Road in Armagh and stealing cash.

Wall is also alleged to have been found in possession of cannabis.

Appearing via videolink from Maghaberry, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

A defence solicitor made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.

Wall was remanded in custody to appear before Newry Crown Court on October 12 for arraignment.
