An Armagh man accused of making and possessing indecent images of children to face Crown Court proceedings later this year.
The 42-year-old appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Stephen Desmond Nugent, is charged with seven counts of making indecent photographs, five counts of possessing a prohibited image of a child and two counts of possession an indecent image.
As the charges were read, it was heard that the defendant is alleged to committed these offences between September 22, of 2015, and October 4, of 2018.
Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister John McCann made no contrary submissions.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
Nugent was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court on June 1 for arraignment.
