A man in his 50s has been arrested following a collision in the Upper English Street area of Armagh on Thursday night.
At around 8pm, a white Peugeot van collided with the front of a local hair salon.
The man arrested at the scene remains in custody at this time.
Sarah, the owner of the affected hair salon, Red Velvet, said in a video posted online: “I couldn’t get up the street with all the traffic and police then I just saw this van and I thought ‘oh my God, that is my place!’
“So I pulled in came across the road and a van had smashed into just outside the salon.
“How he wrecked his own van and missed mine by a hairline I have no idea. Basically, this guy is a foreign guy and I’m not going to say otherwise. He was in a van and full drunk and smashed into the front.”
It is understood the business has not suffered any considerable damage. However, the salon owner said one of her clients narrowly avoided serious injury.
She added: “There was a client here with Katie and the client has two children and they were at the door and Katie said, ‘Do you want to book in for your next appointment?’ and they turned and took two steps and bang!
“If Katie hadn’t have said that they would have been on the footpath and God knows what would have happened. It was so careless and if you think what could have happened.
“When I saw him he couldn’t even stand. He was leaning up against the building. Just so senseless…”
The white van displayed decals for a business, however, the business owners took to social media to clarify that the van was no longer under their ownership.
Said a spokesperson for the company after receiving an image of the accident: “Well this is something we weren’t expecting to get sent tonight.
“So just in case this pops up on your feed or possibly Armagh I this is not us. This is our old van, yes but we sold this back in January so it’s neither me or Josh.
“Hopefully everyone is ok that is involved. Really wishing we took the extra time to peel our stickers off now!”
Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 1344 18/09/25.
