A Coalisland man who assaulted two Armagh women on separate occasions has been sentenced to six months behind bars.
Anthony Quinn, of Platters Hill, appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court – sitting in Newry – via video link from Maghaberry charged with two counts of common assault, theft , possession of Class C drug and threats to damage property.
The 32-year-old had planned on contesting the case but after the theft and threats to damage property charges were withdrawn, he entered guilty pleas to two common assaults and possession of Class C.
The first assault occurred on May 24, last year when, at around 4.15pm, police attended an address at Ardmore Hill in Armagh after the injured party reported a male had turned up and hit the front window of her house.
Part of this altercation was captured on her Ring doorbell.
Again, on June 6 – almost two weeks later – police attended an address in Ardmore Hill following a report from a female that her ex-partner was lingering about the area. A further report was received later of an assault on the same female. She had a cut below her right eye.
Quinn was later found at the Armagh City Hotel where he had eight Lyrica tablets in his possession.
District Judge, Anne Marshall, in passing sentence, said: “There’s two different assaults on two different females on two different dates.”
The judge alluded to the fact one of the assaults was aggravated by domestic abuse.
She imposed a total of six months in custody – four months for each of the common assaults and two months for the drugs offence.
Quinn was also given a two year Restraining Order, prohibiting him from contacting both females, as well as a £25 offender levy and a destruction order for the seized Lyrica.
