Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed that further road safety measures at Christian Brothers’ Primary School in Armagh will be assessed, following her visit to the school this week.
The Minister said she has asked officials to review the existing signs and road markings in the area to ensure they remain appropriate and effective in protecting pupils and pedestrians.
The school has already benefited from a number of recent safety upgrades, including a part-time 20mph speed limit, central hatch markings, and school warning road markings along the frontage. A PUFFIN pedestrian crossing on Irish Street, close to the school entrance, is also in place to allow safer access to and from the school.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Kimmins highlighted the need to continually improve safety around school environments.
She also acknowledged ongoing issues with parking congestion at peak times, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up, and warned that inconsiderate pavement parking presents a serious road safety risk, especially for children and other vulnerable road users.
The Minister urged parents and motorists to consider walking or cycling where possible and to remain mindful of vulnerable pedestrians when parking.
The visit formed part of a wider series of road safety engagements across Counties Fermanagh, Tyrone and Armagh, with the Minister reiterating her commitment to proactive measures to make roads safer for children and young people.
