So far this year more than 4,000 parking fines have been handed out in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough.
However, it’s still some way short of neighbouring Newry, Mourne and Down which has seen 5,862 tickets being slapped on motorists.
While ABC has seen a total of 4,112 tickets in the first half of the year, it’s currently on course to come in under the 8,474 handed out in the entirety of 2022. Previous years (2020 and 2021) saw 5,554 and 6,439 tickets handed out respectively. The reduction was likely down to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
NMD District saw 10,162 issued in 2022, with 2023 currently set to beat that.
In Mid-Ulster, the figures are slightly less with 3,887 handed out this year. A total of 6,369 penalty charge notices were issued in 2022.
Unsurprisingly, Belfast has seen the highest number of PCNs issues – 35,533. Last year there had been issued a total of 65,516.
The lowest is Antrim and Newtownabbey which has, so far, issued 464.
Earlier this month, ABC Council confirmed that the discounted pilot rate of five hours for £1 is to be removed from off-street car parks.
The change came into force on Monday, August 7.
Existing tariffs, however, will remain unchanged with the minimum car parking charge of 30p per hour.
The change means that drivers parking in the Friary Road car park in Armagh for instance, which charges 40p an hour, will have to pay £2 for five hours, double the current rate.
ABC Council are responsible for almost 50 free and charged off-street car parks across the Borough.
