Mum’s pride as four little siblings volunteer to clean-up as Mall drowns under litter

"They asked me if they could go and do it. In the kids' words, 'It's our Mall and we have to look after it'."

Deborah Wilson Armagh Mall rubbish

It has hardly escaped anyone’s notice the condition the Mall in Armagh has been in of late.

Discarded food containers, empty bottles and just general rubbish mar this beautiful city treasure.

With ABC Council staff currently on strike, the litter has been piling up.

And there is no sign of a resolution at this stage, meaning things will likely only get worse before they get better.

And so it is that one Armagh mum was left feeling immensely proud of her little ‘uns today (Monday) when they stepped up to help.

Deborah Wilson simply could not deny them the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and pitch in when they volunteered and suggested getting to work.

Eight-year-old Alivia, Myia (six) and twins Tom and Harry, aged four, noticed the state the area was in and wanted to help make a difference.

Deborah told Armagh I : “They asked me if they could go and do it.

“We went and got the bags, gloves and grabbers, then tied the bags to chairs to encourage others to dump rubbish wisely.

“In the kids’ words, ‘It’s our Mall and we have to look after it’.”

A sterling effort indeed – well done all!
