Police are now treating a loud bang, which was heard in Armagh city on Friday night, as a suspected pipe bomb incident.
Initially police told Armagh I the noise was a result of a partial roof collapse in the area.
Residents however rejected that response and suggested there was something much more sinister.
On Monday, Armagh I requested further clarity on the noise and asked for the location of the roof collapse.
While police didn’t offer any fresh update on the roof, they insisted that there had been no reports of any pipe bomb.
The confusion among residents led Armagh I to highlight the issue in our Tuesday morning newsletter; in which we published images of suspected shrapnel.
Police say they are now looking into an attack in the Ballynahone Crescent area.
Detective Sergeant Wilson said: “We are now treating this report as a suspected pipe bomb incident, and officers have returned to scene this afternoon, Tuesday, to continue with enquiries.
“Anyone who may have any information which may assist with the investigation is asked to contact 101, and quote reference number 658 of 30/01/24.
