The Royal School Armagh’s good fortune continues for yet another hockey season as their girls’ 1st XI team take the top podium spot at the Kate Russell All-Ireland Championships.
The prestigious event was played over two days and included five schools which faced off on the College Hill pitch; putting the bit between the teeth of the Royal school girls.
Not only has it been an incredible end to the season, as the Royal School become the first school side to win all three of the major cup competitions in one season (The Wooden Floor Company Senior Superleague, Belfast Telegraph School’s Senior Cup and the Kate Russell All-Ireland Championships) but this win follows a number of remarkably successful consecutive seasons for the school.
In the past few seasons the Royal School have also won the All Ireland June Smith U14 tournament in 2022 and then became the first school in Ulster to win the Super League and Senior Cup together in 2023.
Their recent win further showcases the impressive standard of hockey that the school continue to uphold and gives credit to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches.
Minister for Education Paul Given MLA congratulated the girls on their achievement and a “fantastic display of hockey at the Kate Russell All Ireland Senior Schoolgirls’ Hockey Championships today at the Royal School Armagh.”
