The Skip Car Tour is an annual entry in many people’s diaries but the year, like all other events, it had been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A virtual version of the event, which was well received, took place late last month to raise money for Marie Curie and The Southern Area Hospice Services.
During these uncertain times fundraising has taken a hit with all usual avenues not now available, meaning that new inventive ideas need to be created.
Both Marie Curie and The Southern Area Hospice Services carry out vital work within the community, with nearly every family touched by cancer.
With this in mind The Skip Car Tour have teamed up with Agri Competitions to raffle off a tractor with all proceeds going to the same worthy charities.
Speaking to Armagh I, Owen Mullan, who co-founded the company alongside Barry Conlan, said: “The Skip Car Tour had their virtual event, although it did not raise as much as it usually would have.
“We were contacted by Sean McArdle, who asked would we raffle off a tractor with all the social distancing guidelines put in place.
“These are two charities which have touched almost everybody’s family in some shape or form, including ourselves, which is why we were happy to jump on board and help them out as best we could.”
He added: “All the normal fundraising is gone, even the simple coffee morning, so they are really struggling and Sean’s event has raised a lot of money for them down the years.
“Both of our families would be charity orientated and would raise money, so that is why we are more than happy to help The Skip Car Tour out.
“It is a very, very worthy prize – it is worth thousands whether the winner keeps it or sells it!”
