Storm Darragh has left hundreds across Co Armagh without power on Saturday.
Strong wind and heavy rain has been battering homes and will continue to do so throughout the day, with an amber warning in place until 9pm.
NIE have warned that the process of restoring all impacted customers may last into Sunday, however, some homes have seen their power restored this morning.
An NIE spokesperson said: “Due to the number of faults we are currently experiencing on the network, we are unable to provide an estimated restoration time for your electricity supply at this time. We are working to restore supplies as quickly and safely as possible.
“Hundreds of extra staff have been brought in to help reinforce our normal capability. Our Incident Management Centre at Craigavon has been opened, as have our Local Incident Centres which are in locations across Northern Ireland and used by our teams to co-ordinate our localised response.
“We have mobilised additional call agents to deal with any queries customers may have regarding the repair process in their area.
“We would like to remind customers that if they should experience a power cut they can report the fault online at www.nienetworks.co.uk or call the NIE Networks Customer Helpline on 03457 643 643. Customers can also follow us on social media for regular updates.”
There are countless roads blocked, with many impassable – some, perhaps with extreme caution. Police have urged the public to “consider essential travel only”.
Emergency services are also dealing with a serious single-vehicle collision on the Greenan Road between Newry and Warrenpoint.
Flights and public transport has also been widely affected.
