There have been a surge of complaints about the deteriorating condition of the Moy to Armagh road in recent days.
According to SDLP councillor Thomas O’Hanlon has called for urgent action to address the issue after he was inundated with complaints from concerned motorists.
“The Armagh–Moy Road is a key trunk route and its current condition is simply unacceptable,” said Councillor O’Hanlon.
“The road surface has seriously deteriorated over recent months, and it is clear that patching is no longer sufficient. Full resurfacing is urgently needed, particularly at the Bunzl/Drumcairn Road junction and as you approach Charlemont.”
Councillor O’Hanlon has written to the Department for Infrastructure requesting an immediate inspection of the road and urgent resurfacing works to be scheduled.
He also highlighted the need to address poor junctions along the route and noted unfinished resurfacing work at the Grange Blundel Road junction, which left several metres of damaged road untouched.
“This is a heavily used road that’s vital for local residents, businesses and commuters. Its poor state is not only a safety concern but is also damaging vehicles and disrupting daily life,” he added.
“It’s time for proper investment in this key route.”
Councillor O’Hanlon urged the Department to act swiftly, saying he hopes to see inspections carried out in the coming days, followed quickly by a comprehensive resurfacing programme.
