Together in reflection: Remembrance events scheduled across Armagh county

This Sunday, towns and villages across County Armagh will pause to honour those who have served and sacrificed in conflict, as communities come together to mark Remembrance Sunday.

From the morning parade in Armagh city to smaller local services in rural villages including Richhill and Loughgall, the day will be marked by wreath-laying, silent contemplation and the reading of the ‘Act of Remembrance’.

In Armagh city, the parade will gather on the Mall before processing to the war memorial for the ceremony.

Members of the Royal British Legion, youth organisations (such as cadet forces), bands and civic dignitaries will feature in the processions, underlining that the event is both a community observance and a tribute to former and current service personnel.

All are welcome to assemble on the Mall at 10.50am for the 11.00am ceremony.

A Remembrance Afternoon will be held at Armagh Royal British Legion with music by Sharon Whitcroft from 4pm to 8pm.

In Richhill, as part of the ‘No Greater Love’ Festival the parade will leave from St Matthew’s Church at 10.45am to the War Memorial followed by a service in the church.

A Remembrance Exhibition will then open from 2pm – 6pm followed by a closing service in St Matthew’s at 6.30pm.

Refreshments will be available throughout the weekend in the hall.

Loughgall will host an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at approximately 11.10am. All are welcome.

Those in Portadown will see the parade form up at Thomas Street around 10.30am to then process to the War Memorial for an 11am Act of Remembrance.

In Lurgan and the Brownlow area, the Legion branch and accompanying bands will parade from Royal British Legion premises via Union Street to the Cenotaph, followed by a service.

As wreaths are laid and the two-minute silence begins, those attending will be invited to share in quiet reflection.
