Two police officers have been seriously injured while chasing ‘prolific criminals’ in the Armagh area, it has been revealed.

The officers were badly hurt while executing their work in the line of duty around a fortnight ago.

During a public policing meeting on Wednesday night Inspector Kieran Quinn revealed that the pair are still in hospital as a result of injuries sustained.

“Two of our officers in the district were chasing the criminals, quite prolific criminals,” said Inspector Quinn.

“I can’t say too much about it, it is ongoing, but they were very, very badly injured – seriously injured – and are still in hospital two weeks later.

“So our thoughts and prayers are with them to make a speedy recovery.”

It is only the latest incident in County Armagh whereby officers have been injured carrying out their work.

Three PSNI officers were injured after a police car was rammed by a lorry in Jonesborough back in March.

Two officers were treated at the scene, while a third has been taken to hospital. The police car was significantly damaged.

Police and HMRC colleagues had been conducting a a joint enforcement operation on a commercial site on Edenappa Road in South Armagh when the incident occurred.

Police said during the operation a Scania HGV tipper lorry deliberately and repeatedly rammed a PSNI vehicle, as those in the lorry attempted to flee the area.

There was also another incident in Culloville, also in March, where two officers were injured when their car was rammed.
