A man and woman have denied outraging public decency after allegedly “engaging in sexual acts” in Armagh city centre.
Standing side by side at Newry Crown Court today (Tuesday), Elizabeth Elliott (40) and Niall Edward McCann (36) each entered a not-guilty plea to the single charge against them.
Elliott, from Linen Court, and McCann, from Corrigan Court, both in Armagh city, are jointly charged with outraging public decency on August 7, last year.
It is alleged they “committed an act of a lewd, obscene and disgusting nature and outraging public decency by engaging in sexual acts in Market Square, Armagh”.
None of the alleged facts giving rise to the charge were opened, but prosecuting counsel Fiona O’Kane told the court that with CCTV forming part of the Crown case, “it’s a very net issue and a one-day trial”.
She added that although the trial has been scheduled for June 19, “we could probably do it one day in April”, so suggested the case be reviewed after the Easter break.
Freeing the pair on bail, Judge Paul Ramsey KC said he would review the case on April 16.
