A man who stole £14 worth of nappies and baby food will have to wait until next month to learn his fate.
Court heard the 26-year-old is currently subject to a probation order, and the district judge asked for an update on his progress, stating: “If it comes back that he is engaging well then I would be unlikely to interfere with that.”
Tony Andrew Beattie, of Orchard Court, Holywood, pleaded guilty to theft at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on February 14, police received a report of a theft from Eurospar, Scarva Street, Banbridge.
A male had entered the store at 8.45am, he had taken nappies valued at £4 and £10 worth of baby food before leaving without paying. The person was later identified as the defendant.
Defence barrister Bobbie Rea stated: “This was a guilty plea at the first opportunity. He has a number of related matters on his record but is currently subject to a probation order.”
District Judge Steven Keown commented: “I think it would be worthwhile checking how he is getting on with probation. Two weeks should be enough to do that.
“If it comes back that he is engaging well then I would be unlikely to interfere with that.”
The case was adjourned until March 11 for sentencing.
