Man who claimed £50,000 in housing benefit fraud sentenced

A man was convicted at Newry Crown Court today (Thursday) for receiving over £50,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Robert McCurdy of Bridge Street, Banbridge received Housing Benefit totalling £50,355 while committing landlord fraud.

The 56-year-old was sentenced to a Probation Order for three years.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
