There have been reports of an attempted child abduction near a primary school in Banbridge on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a parent whose daughter witnessed the alleged incident, a man tried to tell another child he had been told to collect her and knew her parents.
However, the child subsequently ran away following the suspicious approach close to the Belmont Hotel on the Rathfriland Road.
Ulster Unionist councillor for the area Glenn Barr said: “Getting reports of an attempted child abduction today on her way home from school in Banbridge near the Belmont hotel around 3:30pm.
“The child ran away and reported to parents immediately who reported to PSNI.
“Please if anyone saw anything in the area around this time to report to PSNI on 101.”
It is understood the man was travelling in a grey car.
